9:15-10:15 “Red ball”- for ages 5 to 7

Cost: $35.00/week, member $8.00/day, member $45.00/week , non-member $10.00/day , non-member

Red balls are larger than a traditional ball and are designed to bounce lower and move slower. Drills, activities, and games are designed to keep the participants excited about the new sport.

KEEP IT SIMPLE … KEEP IT FUN!!!


10:15-12:30 “Beginner to Intermediate” -for ages 7+

Orange balls bounce higher, move a little faster than the red balls; green balls more than orange balls. Drills, activities, and games are designed to increase the skill level of these young players, while keeping things fun and interesting. Emphasis is on movement, fun & stroke production, with the goal of introducing the player to match play.


10:15-12:30 “Intermediate to Advanced”- for ages 10+ 

Drills, activities and games will evoke competitive experience, in a light and fun atmosphere. Movement, stroke production & fun are emphasized. Tactical & technical aspects are employed to help create thinking players. Players in this group should consider entering tournaments or school team play.


12:30-1:30 Lunch Bring your own or order from Harbor Club. HC closed on Mondays


1:30-3:30 Choice of tennis/sports/games Match play for the more experienced player

BEAT THE HEAT We have added AC and a refrigerator/freezer to the tennis hut, a ceiling fan and awning to the porch, a cooling/mist station, and tables, chairs and umbrellas on the terrace.

Ages 5-18. Children will be grouped according to age and skill-level.

What to Expect • Morning sessions are scheduled to follow swim team practice. • Non-members are welcome as space allows. • Afternoon session consists of a choice of either more tennis, other sports including soccer, wiffle ball or kickball fun activities such as water balloon fights, capture the flag, arts and crafts, or a movie. • Match play for the more competitive and experienced players. Theme days and contests • Tuesday is Tie-dye Tuesday • Wednesday is Wacky Hat Wednesday • Thursday is Team Shirt Day • Friday is Fence Art Day

What to Wear Athletic clothes, preferably with pockets and flat-soled tennis shoes (NO waffle soles) and a hat. NO cut-offs

What to Bring • Snacks, water/drinks & lunch (unless you’re ordering from the club: club closed on Mondays) • Tennis racquet • Towel • Sunscreen Lunch is not provided. We do have refrigeration. Racquets are available to lend or purchase in the pro shop.

Staff Director of Tennis, Brian Ratzlaff will oversee a talented staff of junior assistants, coaches, and volunteers, many of whom are returning from last summer. Contact Tennis Director, Brian Ratzlaff with questions, to register or to volunteer.

TOURNAMENT PREP: YELLOW BALL Fridays: 4:30-6:00pm, Saturdays 2:30-4:00p Tennis member: $66/session or $20/day non-member: $85/session or $25/day

This is a high-intensity training group for USTA tournament players and high-school players. This group will focus on all aspects of the game: mental toughness, physical conditioning, technique, and tennis I.Q. Players will push themselves to reach their peak potential in a fun, team-like atmosphere. Players in this group are strongly encouraged to play regularly in USTA tournaments and on their school teams.


FREE COMMUNITY MEGA TENNIS FUN FAIRS Dates and times are TBD

Once per month, FLCC will be offering community junior tennis events open to all FL residents at no charge. Drills, games and play will fill the day. Come join your friends and make some new ones! Come join the FUN!

BEGINNER/ADVANCED BEGINNER Saturdays 10:00am-11:00am

The fundamentals of groundstrokes, volleys and serves are introduced. Players will begin point play and review the fundamental rules of play. Keep it Simple!!! Keep it FUN!!!

Tennis member: $48/session or $15/day Non-member: $60/session or $18/day


CARDIO TENNIS Wednesday and/or Saturday Mornings: 9:00-10:00am, Thursday Night: 7:00-8:00pm

Drills and games are designed to promote movement, fun, and learning. Emphasis is on aerobic exercise. As much instruction as possible is offered, while still allowing for a fast-paced, flowing clinic.

Tennis member: $48/session or $15/day Non-member: $60/session or $18/day


BALL MACHINE DRILLS Wednesdays 6:30- 7:30 pm

Hit hundreds of balls under the supervision of FLCC Tennis Director, Brian Ratzlaff USPTA. Emphasis is on technique, sound footwork and conditioning. Class is designed for players 3.0 and above.

Tennis member: $48/session or $15/day Non-member: $60/session or $18/day


ADULT CLINIC/DRILL Friday Morning: 9:00-10:30am, Tuesdays 7:00-8:30pm

A different stroke will be emphasized each week. After a brief warm-up period, drills on that stroke will be introduced, followed by point or match play.

Tennis member: $66/session or/ $20/day Non-member: $85 session or $25/day


STROKE OF THE WEEK Thursday Night: 6:30-7:00pm FREE with paid CARDIO

Week One: Forehand (Topspin and Slice) Week Two: Serve Week Three: Net Game Week Four: Specialty Shots Week Four: Specialty Shots

Tennis member: $7/day Non-member: $10/day

A specific stroke or strategy will be focused on each week. Emphasis is on developing basic stroke production, grips, early preparation, point of contact and follow through. This class is FREE for those with paid CARDIO attendance


PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL & GROUP LESSONS Outside of our open lesson offering, private and individual group lessons may be formed. Pick your group, your topic of instruction, your day and time. See private rates page for more information.

Classes may be added. Please contact Brian if you would like to play, but class times are not convenient.

In light of the concerns associated with the COVID-19 virus, the following guidelines have been established by FLCC management, the Tennis Committee and the Board of Directors, in the hope of contributing to a safer exercise routine.

We ask all players support these initiatives.
  • The Tennis Hut will be staffed at certain hours, but will be closed to members.
  • Practice “social distancing” guidelines as established by the Center for Disease Control.
  • Please do not enter the courts if you are not feeling well for any reason.
  • Enter the courts only from the doors closest to the tennis hut.
    • Doors should remain closed, but unlatched during business hours.
  • All large group (more than ten participants) events have been postponed until further notice.
    • Group lessons will be restricted to 4-6 players dependent upon class structure.
  • The number of balls used during lessons will be reduced. Stock will be rotated regularly.
    • Pro only will pick-up balls “herded” by players. Players should not pick-up lesson balls.
  • NO drinking water will be provided on the courts. Please bring your own beverages.
  • All sales will be on account only. NO cash sales please.
  • Practice balls, baskets and racket demos will not be available.
  • No cups, trash cans nor scorecards will be available. Please take your trash with you.
  • Courts will be swept by staff only as deemed necessary by the tennis staff.
  • The ball machine will be available for rental during tennis shop hours. See Brian for details.
  • Staff will clean the ball machine and ball basket after each use. Staff will clean court lighting switches.
  • The number of balls used during lessons will be reduced. Stock will be rotated regularly.
    • Pro only will pick-up balls “herded” by players. Players should not pick-up lesson balls.
  • We suggest that you restrict the number of playing/practice partners.
  • We suggest you mark the balls so that the server only uses/touches certain balls.
  • Please do not touch anything that may be touched by someone else. Returned balls without picking them up.
